A Generous
Gesture of Caring After hearing about the visits at the Xin Hua leukemia ward by the Concordia moms and SAS moms , the High School Student Council at SAS Pudong Campus started a "Toiletry and Toy Drive" for the leukemia kids. The response to the drive by the students at SAS and its subsequent donations were overwhelming. More than 10 boxes of toiletries and toys were collected throughout the whole Pudong campus and a total of 10,771 RMB was raised from the following three events. All of these will be used to benefit the leukemia children and their families in Xinhua Hospital! 1,460 RMB raised at the High School Treat Day was donated to help pay for part of the treatment fee of an underprivileged leukemia child in the hospital. The amount will be matched by the Mercy Fund, a fund raising program started by a group of mothers in Concordia. The Middle School Treat Day fund of 3,345 RMB was donated to help all the leukemia children in the area of medicine supplements, such as a calcium and vitamin D. The generosity just kept rolling in! The SAS Pudong Middle School Community Service Class also generously donated 5,966 RMB. The money again is intended for buying medicine supplements to benefit all the children in the leukemia ward. Aside from these donations, a small, but dedicated group of students also visit the hospital, hoping to cheer the children with music and games. The compassion and generosity shown by all the SAS Pudong students involved were highly appreciated by the leukemia children and their parents and will definitely be something to be looked forward upon by the students of SAS Pudong. |
